Before and After a Chiropractic Adjustment: What Does It Feel Like?

Have you ever wondered what it feels like before and after a chiropractic adjustment? You’re not the only one! Many people find themselves captivated by YouTube and Tik Tok videos showcasing dramatic ‘cracking’ sessions, which can lead to apprehension about having a chiropractic adjustment. Sound familiar? Many patients enter our clinics with these very concerns, but by the time they leave, those fears are gone, with the feeling of relief taking over.
To genuinely understand the sensations both before and after a chiropractic adjustment, it’s important to first grasp its core essence and the pivotal role it plays in chiropractic care.
Everyday life, with its stresses, accidental injuries, the challenges of maintaining good posture, or simply the wear and tear of daily activities, can all induce tension and rigidity in our spine. The major culprits often being the joints in our neck and back.
This tension, if left unchecked, can cause surrounding muscles and nerves to become tight, inflamed, and painful. And this is where your chiropractor steps in, bringing the transformative power of the chiropractic adjustment.
Chiropractic Adjustment…
Chiropractic adjustments aim to alleviate this tension. With precision, a gentle touch, and timely manoeuvres, a chiropractor guides your joints beyond their restrictions. The release of this pent-up tension can not only reduce pain but also augment the range of motion in the affected zones.
Furthermore, the efficacy and safety of chiropractic adjustments are well documented. Those who experience an adjustment often recount an immediate sensation of relief, soon followed by a state of euphoria. This is because a chiropractic adjustment triggers the release of endorphins, the brain’s natural mood boosters. The outcome? Muscles that relax and release their tension, mirroring the gratification of a thorough stretch but on a more profound and immediate scale. Moving your neck and back after the adjustment feels liberating, emphasising the enhanced mobility of your spinal joints.
So, what is the popping noise?
Now, we can’t talk about chiropractic adjustment without mentioning the often-debated popping sound during an adjustment: it’s simply the release of nitrogen gas trapped between your joints. As the adjustment changes joint pressure, this gas is released, producing the signature ‘pop’ or ‘crack’, reminiscent of the satisfying sensation when you pop bubble wrap.
The Transformation: Before and After
Before a chiropractic adjustment, you might feel tense, restricted, or even pained, with the weight of daily stresses manifesting physically. But after the adjustment? A world of difference. Muscles relax, movement becomes more fluid, and there’s a newfound lightness in your posture. The before and after of a chiropractic adjustment is like night and day; a transition from discomfort to relief, from constraint to liberation.
If back pain, neck discomfort, or just a desire for optimal spinal health is on your mind, reflecting on the before and after of a chiropractic adjustment can provide clarity. The benefits of chiropractic care extend far beyond mere pain relief. Though some might feel a slight soreness after the session, it’s often short-lived and is seen as a sign of the body recalibrating and healing itself.
